As i sit here and type this my sweet precious girl is sitting next to me, sucking on a grape Icee Popsicle (from last night), her hair all over the place, wearing one of her dads night shirts, and admiring her work as she set up our Playmobil Nativity set on our entertainment center. Her breathing is ragged, her nose is stuffy, and in between breathing and asking my questions she belts out a gnarly hacky cough and eventually gives me a sweet doe eyed smile. My heart melts, aches for her, and wishes there was mor ei could do for her all at the same time.
We are all just so tired, and hoping this illness with exit our home ASAP. But at the same time, its been nice having all 3 of us home, enduring this together, taking care of each other, as families should. I worry about how these 2 days out of school are going to set her behind, Kreg worries about issues with work and him not being there, and Klaire is carefree and happy to have an excuse to be lazy all day.
This girl. Man. The things we have done, are doing, and will do for her. She's worth every ounce of sacrifice, and there's been alot for her. We love her deeply, shes done so many things for Kreg and i, and in turn, we have done many things for her, happily.
Shes an amazing girl, we are so blessed.
Kreg and i have averaged about 4 hours of sleep between us the last few nights because she seems to like spiking a crazy high fever at 2 am on top of hacking so hard she nearly vomits. So, of course, because we aren't totally heartless parents we let her settle in for the night in our room on the floor. Fitting a 2 year old in our bed is one thing, but it just doesn't work with a tall 8 year old and 2 adults. As she laid on the floor just below me, wrapped up in one of my blankets, and propped up on our pillows i watch her drift in and out of sleep. She reaches up to to hold my hand thats dangling over the edge of my bed. As she begins to drift into a deep sleep i lay semi-awake and soak this moment in. Here i am, comforting her as i did when she was a sick infant, the same things work now as they did so many years ago. Its bittersweet.
As my baby has gotten older i have come to appreciate these moments more and more. I savor these sick moments in a wierd sort of way, but enjoy the healthy and happy moments 100 times more.
When she was a baby she was so sick alot and for long periods of time. I was in nothing but survival mode from the moment she was born until she was about 4. I was doing 95% of her care by myself, i dont fault Kreg, he was doing what he had to in order to provide. But dude. It was hard, it was all me, all the time. It was hard to appreciate her, to appreciate my role as a mom, to appreciate this beautiful family that was a true gift from heavenly Father.
And now with her being sick right now Kreg's been here for nearly all of it.
He's been there awake at night with me helping me help her, willingly. He has taken her back to her bed and laid down with her to help coax her to sleep and to offer her some daddy comfort, while its given me a few extra minutes of sleep. He's been very diligent in making sure we are fed and and taken care of. And he's ensured our supply of medicine hasn't ran out.
Its odd to have that other person there, im deeply appreciative, but its taken some getting used to.lol Klaire and i had our rhythm down, and it was a nice change to have him there.
I feel bad because i see the same exhaustion in his face and body that i see when i look in the mirror, and its a bone tingling tiredness, its mind numbing. Sacrifice.
Just the thought that i didn't endure this alone has lifted a burden from my shoulders.
Kreg is an amazing person, husband, and dad. I'm eternally grateful for his presence in our home. I'm eternally grateful for the support he lends me in all things.
I honestly dont think i could have gotten through this round of "the sickies" without him. I think Heavenly Father knew how tired and exhausted i was when Klaire got sick, and Kreg stepped up and has been there from the start. I'm humbled and thankful. He is everything i strive to be.
Ive seen Kreg mature and grow in a way i cant describe these last few months. Its been amazing to see. He is an amazing person, we have come a long way, an we have a long way to go.
Say a prayer for my girl. She needs them. We are hoping she can go back to school tomorrow, but we aren't holding our breathe about it. I just want her healthy again. It pains me to see her so miserable and sick.
Lastly, we had a wonderful Turkey day.
Kreg did a smashing job on the turkey, he did it all by himself, i left it all up to him while i made the rest of the food. We had a smaller menu this year, but it was still very tasty and we still had hoards of food left over. My dad came to eat with us and that was a delight having him over.
It was so nice to be home, with Christmas music in the background, with the ones we love, and eating scrumptious food.
Well, my girl is starving and so am i. Off to be mom again.
