Im a butter makin' machine these days. I make a constant supply for the 3 of us, a supply for my dad, and some every now and again for my mom.
Butter making is alot funner than i thought it would be, Klaire has gotten into it, and so has Kreg.
Kreg and i have been building a business plan as well. Ya. A business plan. We have such hair brained ideas at times.lol But its fun. And we look forward to what next summer will bring us.
Im still finding a good technique that i feel comfortable with. And i want to branch out to using raw milk.
*GASP!*
RAW MILK?!
Yes. Raw milk.
Its actually pretty healthy for you and tastes MUCH better than processed milk and the cream that comes from the processed milk. And the cream that comes off it is divine! The only difference from what i do now is that i have to do an additional process or two to the raw cream, and it will add time to the process, which, i don't care about, but i don't know if its a sustainable process for long or in large quantities. But im willing to try!
Im also ready to start making a cultured butter that is supposed to have a distinct tartness to it, and its actually the norm over in other countries from what ive read. Its healthier than our butter too. But, again, ill be adding some additional time and steps to get the finished product, and that worries me, i don't want to mess it up.
And i'll be playing with other flavors as well. So it'll be super exciting to see where this goes for us. But for now, i like making my own Buttah!
I will be making a batch this week and i'll post pics of the process. Its actually kinda cool! Just trust me on this. K?
Now with the butter making comes the toys!
There's the forms, and ive got my eye on a few. But im going to have to buy a few styles to see what works for me.
And then the churns. I already have a churn, its hand made, and has a wooden dowel, and its just the coolest thing ever. And surprisingly enough, it takes less than 30 minutes to make butter with my churn.
But, im finding some late 1800's early 1900's churns that are still functional, and im trying to get my hands on a 4 qt. a 6 qt. and/or an 8 qt. I also want the glass styles so that Klaire can be a more active role in the process. Its a more contained design.
They have a glass jar, metal mechanics on top, and a wooden churn inside. They are super cool and i want one, or 3. {insert snickers} That's just how i roll.
So that's what ive been up to. Buttah. And gardening. And Laundry. And being a momma.
And one last thing.
Kreg is a freaking rockstar!!! I guess i tell people that alot. And im OK with that because he's full of awesomeness. Yes. Awesomeness.
He fixed our closet. It fell down. And he fixed it. And its not like he could just screw it back up and be done. There was nothing that could anchor the closet racks and bars to the walls.
So its fixed now and we are happy!
